Vulcan Materials Company, Carroll Canyon Facility, 10051 Black Mountain Rd, SD 92126

Cost: $10 - includes lunch (Adults FREE)

Complete the Boy Scouts Mining in Society & Geology Merit Badges, WEBELOS can earn the AOL Elective Adventure: Earth rocks! 

Activities include:

  • Behind the scenes tour of Carroll Canyon Quarry
  • Rock and Mineral Identification
  • Geology Station
  • Heavy Equipment Displays

Non- Webelos Cub Scouts, please note: With the change in the Cub Scout program, the event curriculum no longer satisfies any advancement or elective requirements. 

Physical copies of the Photo Release Form should be filled out and brought with attendees at check in.  Please review Parent/Leader's guide for more information.

Boy Scouts are reminded that they should bring 2 signed blue cards and the printed work sheet for the merit badge(s) they plan to accomplish.  The more complete the worksheets are in advance, the better the educational experience at the event.

You will be at a working ROCK QUARRY:  NO OPEN-TOE SHOES, NO SANDALS AND NO HEELS

This event is a BSA event.  All rules regarding adult leadership/ supervision apply.  While Boy Scout aged participants do not need one-to-one leader coverage, they must be accompanied by adult leaders.  No scout will be allowed to be dropped off at the event; they must have appropriate adult leadership/supervision.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be made in writing at least 1 week prior to the event. Refund requests made within the week before the event will be at the discretion of the event committee. Please email your request to jeff.young@scouting.org. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing of your refund.
