CHESS WORK SHOP & MERIT BADGE CLASS
Saturday, April 14 & 21 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Class is limited to 34 Scouts
Must attend both sessions in order to earn the merit badge.
Prerequisites:
- Scouts MUST bring a signed blue card.
- Scouts MUST be able to play Chess (we are not teaching how to play Chess, being a beginner is okay, as we are all learning).
- Scouts MUST bring a Chess Merit Badge Pamphlet to class, as this will be our text book.
- Scout MUST read the Merit Badge book before class and bring a completed chess work book available online.
- Scouts MUST attend both sessions.
- Scouts should bring a sack lunch, snacks and a water bottle.
Workshop on April 14 will review Merit Badge requirements, instructions on use of the chess clock and a clinic stressing tactics, strategy, traps and tricks. No blue cards will be signed that day. The Merit Badge class on April 21 will include a Chess Tournament (based on age) using chess clocks to fulfill requirement #6. Blue cards will be signed that day.
If you have a chess board, please bring it.
SOMETHING NEW: Sibling and friends of "Scouting age" may enroll for the clinic and tournaments...that includes girls. However, only registered Boy Scouts may earn the merit badge.
Adults are welcome to attend.
