CHESS WORK SHOP & MERIT BADGE CLASS

Saturday, April 14 & 21 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Class is limited to 34 Scouts

Must attend both sessions in order to earn the merit badge.

Prerequisites:

  1. Scouts MUST bring a signed blue card.
  2. Scouts MUST be able to play Chess (we are not teaching how to play Chess, being a beginner is okay, as we are all learning).
  3. Scouts MUST bring a Chess Merit Badge Pamphlet to class, as this will be our text book.
  4. Scout MUST read the Merit Badge book before class and bring a completed chess work book available online.
  5. Scouts MUST attend both sessions.
  6. Scouts should bring a sack lunch, snacks and a water bottle.

Workshop on April 14 will review Merit Badge requirements, instructions on use of the chess clock and a clinic stressing tactics, strategy, traps and tricks.  No blue cards will be signed that day.  The Merit Badge class on April 21 will include a Chess Tournament (based on age) using chess clocks to fulfill requirement #6.  Blue cards will be signed that day.

If you have a chess board, please bring it.

SOMETHING NEW: Sibling and friends of "Scouting age" may enroll for the clinic and tournaments...that includes girls. However, only registered Boy Scouts may earn the merit badge.

Adults are welcome to attend.
