NYLT Registration 2023

To help guide you through the NYLT participant registration process.

  1. Verify prerequisites
    •  To attend an NYLT course, a youth shall have the following qualifications by the beginning of the course:
      1. Must be a registered member of a Scouting unit
      2. Must have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C
      3. Scouts (male and female) must be 13 years of age (though it is typical for 14-year-old Scouts and older to have a better experience on course) and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program registration. They must be ranked a First Class Scout or higher and have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
      4. Venturers and Sea Scouts (male and female) must be at least 14, or 13 and have completed eighth grade, and fall within the maximum age allowance for their program. They must have completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews or Ships.
      5. It is recommended that they have had at least one year of camping experience. While NYLT is not an outdoor skills course, it is important that each participant have basic camping and outdoor cooking experience.

    • Course fee is $300
    • Minimum $75 non-refundable deposit due at registration
    • Balance must be paid by close of business May 1st, 2023Courses fill up quickly, if not paid in full, place will be given to anyone on wait list.
    • Refund for $225 if written request received by May 1st, 2023, no refunds after May 1st, 2023, without extenuating circumstances.

  1. Attend MANDATORY pre-course meeting for your session
    • Session 1: Wednesday May 24, Atherton Hall/Camp Balboa 6-8 pm
    • Session 2: Saturday Jun 10, Atherton Hall/Camp Balboa 6-8 pm
    • If you are unable to attend your week’s session, please attend the alternative week’s session.
  2. Course location is at Mataguay Scout Ranch (27955 Highway 79, Santa Ysabel, CA 92070), Scout is responsible for transportation to and from camp.

**PAYMENT ALONE DOES NOT SECURE A PLACE ON THE COURSE. 

ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE COMPLETED AND FULL PAYMENT RECEIVED. 

REGISTRATION IS SUBJECT TO COURSE DIRECTOR/COUNCIL DISCRETION.

Important Form Submittal Information:

The applications and all forms must be submitted to the NYLT Registrar and will be reviewed by administrative and health staff.  NYLT fills up quickly, submit your application early.  A welcome letter will be sent to confirm registration when completed forms and fees have been approved.  

Medical Form part C is the annual physical required by BSA National.  This is due as soon as possible but no later than June 15 without Course Director approval.  If your Medical Form C is not received by June 15 the applicant will be placed on a wait list.  Your space will not be reserved.  All confirmations are based on completed forms and fees.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be submitted in writing. Refunds of $225 will be given if written request is received on or before May 1. NO REFUNDS will be made of the non-refundable $75 deposit. The course fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to another Scout (ONLY if their individual application has already been received and space is available) or forwarded to the next course year. Refunds will be considered for extreme extenuating circumstances. Please submit all requests for a refund to NYLT at SDIC-BSA, 1207 Upas Street, San Diego, CA 92103 or via email to trg@sdicbsa.org. Please allow 2-3 weeks for the processing of your refund.
