DESCRIPTION:WANT TO ATTEND SWAMP BASE? \n  \n  \n This is not your typical vacation. This is a challenge. \n  \n You will need to overcome fears, do the unthinkable, and you will be better because of it. \n  \n This is Swamp Base. This is high adventure. \n  \n  \n San Diego-Imperial Council is sending a contingent of scouts to the Swamp Base in Louisiana. The excursion ventures through remote swamplands and caters to Scouts and registered adult leaders. We will be sending 2 crews that depart the same day. \n  \n  \n If you're looking to experience all that you've heard about the swamp, then this experience is for you! A 61.6-mile high adventure canoe trek through the western side of the Atchafalaya Swamp. It takes place over 6-days and 6-nights. The trek includes challenging tests of endurance with specific lessons about the environments, cultures, food, and communities of the Atchafalaya and South Louisiana. \n  \n  \n Sign-up today, space is limited. We will have a waitlist for sure, as interest is very high. Don't miss out on this incredible experience in the SWAMP. \n  \n  \n TREK DATES: June 18-23, 2027 \n  \n TRAVEL: Up to 2 days each Way \n  \n ESTIMATED COST: $750 + Travel Expenses \n  \n PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY \n  \n  \n  \n 	Must be a registered Scouts BSA, Venture Scout, Sea Scout, or Adult Leader. \n 	Must be 13 years old on or before their trek Arrival Day. \n 	Must pass the BSA Swim Test as a SWIMMER or BEGINNER before arrival. \n 	Must be in good health as evidenced by the BSA Health Form. \n  \n  \n CREW REQUIREMENTS \n  \n  \n  \n 	At least half of the members in every crew must be youth. \n 	All participants must be registered members of a Scouts BSA Troop, Venturing, or a Sea Scout Ship. \n 	Paddling distance: 60+ miles over five days \n 	Must be able to attend crew development dates to familiarize yourself with the unique paddling of Swamp Base. \n 	Cost of travel to be determined later & added to the total, as travel prices are currently in flux. \n  \n  \n   \n  \n  \n Please Note: The published trek fee covers only the costs directly associated with participation in the Swamp Base trek program itself. This fee does not include transportation to or from the trek location, airfare, ground transportation, lodging before or after the trek, meals during travel, baggage fees, travel insurance, spending money, personal gear and equipment, or any other incidental or personal expenses. Participants should budget separately for all travel-related and personal costs in addition to the trek fee.
